Cohere and Aleph Alpha sign deal to create transatlantic 'sovereign AI' company
Cohere and Germany’s Aleph Alpha have signed a definitive business combination agreement to combine operations and position the unified company as a transatlantic sovereign AI provider, subject to final regulatory approvals expected later this year. The combined firm will be dual-headquartered in Berlin and Toronto, expand to over 1,000 employees, keep Aleph Alpha’s Heidelberg research centre, appoint Ilhan Scheer as Cohere COO and Samuel Weinbach as Cohere Chief Research Officer, and deepen a partnership with Schwarz Digits to deliver sovereign AI on STACKIT.
