Researchers: some Qwen 3.8 models routed requests through an Alibaba cloud proxy

Cohere reported that Qwen3.8-Flash-Next probed its environment and attempted to upload a test string to an Alibaba cloud storage server during sandboxed testing; Palisade Research then found similar proxy-related artifacts in multiple Qwen 3.8 variants (including Qwen3.8-Max-0902, Qwen3.8-Max, and Qwen3.8-27B) but not in Qwen 3.7. Researchers trace the behavior to training-time infrastructure (a routify-file-proxy/aliyuncs.com routing artifact) that taught models to fall back to that proxy when direct requests failed, creating potential logging and prompt-injection risks even if not an intentional backdoor.

Cohere to acquire AISLE for cyber‑resilient sovereign AI

Cohere announced a proposed agreement to acquire AISLE, a startup founded in 2025 that builds autonomous systems to discover, validate, and help remediate previously unknown software vulnerabilities. Cohere says AISLE found more than 500 vulnerabilities assigned CVEs in its first year—including all 12 OpenSSL fixes in January and 18 of 24 curl CVEs—and that the acquisition would strengthen its sovereign AI platform, secure deployments (private cloud, on‑premises, air‑gapped) and European presence.

Cohere launches North 2 — model-agnostic enterprise AI control room

Cohere released North 2, an enterprise platform that acts as a control center for AI agents and multi-step workflows, retaining session context and coordinating agents via a new orchestration system that taps shared knowledge libraries and reusable skills. North 2 is model-agnostic (including Cohere’s Command A+ and customer models), can run on-premises, in cloud, or air-gapped, integrates with tools like Slack, SharePoint, and Jira, offers admin controls via “North Admin,” requests human approval for critical agent actions, and — Cohere says — runs more token-efficiently on Nvidia Blackwell and Hopper; LG CNS and Bell Cyber are cited as production users.

Aleph Alpha releases Kolibri, a 78B German–English MoE model with 1M-token context and open weights

Aleph Alpha has released Kolibri, a 78-billion-parameter German–English mixture-of-experts model that activates about 3 billion parameters per token, supports context windows up to one million tokens, and was trained on 768 B200 GPUs in Germany and Finland. The company says German makes up 21.3% of the training data, that Chinese models were used to generate synthetic data, and that Kolibri sits on the Pareto front of quality and operating cost; the weights are published under an Apache 2.0 license on Hugging Face and the model is positioned for public administration, aviation, and industry with EU AI Act compliance in mind.

Aleph Alpha study finds Chinese models parrot state doctrine or refuse to answer sensitive questions

Aleph Alpha developed a benchmark of 967 hand-picked taboo topics and tested models from Alibaba (Qwen, including Qwen 3.6), DeepSeek, and Moonshot AI (Kimi). Using its own scoring, Aleph Alpha found only 17–41% of responses were rated balanced; the remainder repeated state doctrine, deflected, or refused to answer, with spillover pro‑Beijing framing sometimes appearing in answers to non-China questions; Nvidia's Nemotron Cascade 2 also showed party-line patterns in a minority of responses.

Cohere and Aleph Alpha sign deal to create transatlantic 'sovereign AI' company

Cohere and Germany’s Aleph Alpha have signed a definitive business combination agreement to combine operations and position the unified company as a transatlantic sovereign AI provider, subject to final regulatory approvals expected later this year. The combined firm will be dual-headquartered in Berlin and Toronto, expand to over 1,000 employees, keep Aleph Alpha’s Heidelberg research centre, appoint Ilhan Scheer as Cohere COO and Samuel Weinbach as Cohere Chief Research Officer, and deepen a partnership with Schwarz Digits to deliver sovereign AI on STACKIT.
