Google has rolled out Universal Cart in the U.S., an intelligent shopping hub available in Google Search and the Gemini app that saves items from multiple retailers, monitors price and inventory changes using the Shopping Graph, recommends payment and promo options via Google Wallet, and supports checkout with Google Pay or by transferring items to merchant carts; it uses the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP).
Shopify announced WebMCP support for checkout (including Shop Pay), allowing browser-based AI agents to inspect, update, and complete purchases on eligible merchants’ storefronts via three new tools: get_checkout, update_checkout, and complete_checkout. The change extends existing WebMCP storefront/cart capabilities and leverages Shopify’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP); Shopify also offers a hosted MCP server and partners such as Muse and Instinct for agentic commerce.
Google says AI performance insights in Merchant Center are now available to businesses in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the U.S., letting retailers compare share of voice across AI surfaces like AI Mode and AI Overviews. The company is also inviting retailers to a U.S. beta that embeds Business Agent into YouTube ads, rolling out UCP checkout enhancements (U.S. first, Australia/Canada soon), and urging product feed best practices — including conversational attributes that were incorporated 50% of the time in AI Mode tests with lululemon.
