OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Anthropic back IETF 'policy token' in robots.txt to opt out of AI scraping

OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Anthropic said they will adopt a proposed IETF 'policy token' placed in a site's robots.txt that lets publishers express AI training preferences across multiple crawlers. Anthropic has already implemented the signal; Google and Microsoft plan support next year and OpenAI expects implementation in the coming months; Microsoft will offer more granular options and sites will still appear in Bing search results.

Cloudflare launches beta Web Search API for AI applications

Cloudflare introduced a beta Web Search API via its AI Gateway, accessible through REST endpoints and Cloudflare Workers. The API provides unified logging, access controls, integrated billing (including providers' list prices and optional zero data retention), supports bring‑your‑own‑provider keys, and can return live web results from providers such as Ceramic.ai, Exa, and Linkup while requiring crawlers to meet Cloudflare's verified‑bot rules and include source links.

Cloudflare launches Auto Router public beta in AI Gateway to rate requests by stakes and other metrics

Cloudflare published Auto Router in public beta via AI Gateway: a two-stage router that builds a candidate model pool then runs a multi-head classifier on Workers AI to assign probabilities across 14 task categories and score requests 1–5 on complexity, ambiguity, stakes and context dependence, using only the newest turns (up to 8 KiB). The router combines those scores with benchmark results (quoted formula: "utility = expected quality - adaptive cost penalty"), exposes routing headers for auditability, supports per-request allowed-models headers, is free in beta, and currently lacks WebSocket support.

Critical PHP vulnerabilities (PHP2Shell) disclosed, widely exploited after AI-aided discovery

Researchers disclosed two critical vulnerabilities in the PHP programming language — reportedly present for about 20 years — which security firm Wiz says became practically exploitable after AI-assisted work. The flaws have triggered widespread exploitation attempts (Cloudflare reported millions of hits), forced many sites and services offline, and prompted guidance from the NSA and UK NCSC to take systems offline if they cannot be immediately patched.

GPT-5.6 Sol and Gemini 4 Argon help find critical PHP vulnerability affecting millions

OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and Google's Gemini 4 Argon, alongside security firm Wiz (using Wiz Atlas), independently identified a critical PHP vulnerability; a coordinated two-month, multi-phase response involving PHP maintainers, Wiz, Cloudflare, CISA and the White House produced patches and a GitHub tool to check affected servers. Wiz says LLMs also make it easier to adapt exploits across versions and deployments, and OpenAI proposes the coordination process as a repeatable framework for future AI-driven discoveries.

Cloudflare previews Clairic, a document-extraction model for Workers AI

Cloudflare released Clairic in preview on Workers AI, an AI model that extracts named fields from documents in a single pass (returning values, formats and confidence scores) and which the company says is faster and cheaper than using LLMs; open weights are slated to follow. Cloudflare notes Clairic can perform simple calculations and forecasts but currently isn't reliable for longer calculation chains and is intended to run in chains alongside other System One models like Jev, Clef and GLM-5.3.

Meta extends its Private Processing confidential-computing architecture to AI glasses

Meta says it is extending its Private Processing design to wearable AI glasses, running AI models and persistent user context inside confidential virtual machines (CVMs) backed by hardware TEEs in Meta’s cloud. The architecture uses remote attestation, anonymous credentials, OHTTP relays, encrypted storage and a public transparency ledger; Meta says the platform is not yet deployed to glasses and that it is engaging independent security firms and researchers (including NCC Group) to review and audit the system.

Microsoft releases Decision-1 decision model based on Qwen3.5-9B

Microsoft announced Decision-1, a decision-oriented model built on Qwen3.5-9B that Microsoft says handles classifications, evaluations and routing decisions. Microsoft claims Decision-1 is the most accurate model in its tests across 36 benchmarks (nearly 150,000 questions) and 2.5× faster than the runner-up H2O-Lightning-4B; the company offers Decision-1 via Microsoft Foundry and OpenRouter with input tokens priced at $0.042 per million and output tokens free, and notes Cloudflare's Clef models were not included in its comparison.

SpaceXAI donates $1.5M in Grok tokens to Omarchy via Omacom Foundation

SpaceXAI has joined the Omacom Foundation as a Founding Corporate Patron and donated $1.5 million worth of Grok tokens to Omarchy, David Heinemeier Hansson’s Linux distribution; the tokens are intended to accelerate development, review code, and patch bugs, according to Hansson’s blog post. The move follows prior controversy around Omarchy contributors such as 1Password and Cloudflare and comes amid scrutiny of Hansson’s political statements.

Cloudflare open-sources Clef decision models (27B and 9B)

Cloudflare released Clef, a set of open-weight decision-focused multimodal models (27B and a lower-latency 9B “Clef-Flash”) that classify inputs and return typed outcomes with probabilities instead of generating free-form text. The models support text, JSON, images, and video, have a 64k context window, are available via Workers AI and as downloadable weights on Hugging Face, and Cloudflare plans a fine-tuning service to adapt Clef to customer workloads.

Cloudflare uses AI harness to probe and harden its WAF

Cloudflare placed frontier AI models inside a controlled Python harness to generate and mutate attack payloads against its Web Application Firewall (WAF). Across 45 scenarios the system produced 1,107 mutation attempts, leaving 49 post-triage findings; the experiment contributed to three changes in Cloudflare’s Managed Ruleset (two new SSRF detections and an improvement to an existing SSRF rule), with human reviewers validating results before rule changes.

Cloudflare launches Clef and Clef-flash decision models (Qwen-based)

Cloudflare released two decision models, Clef (based on Qwen3.8-27B) and the smaller Clef-flash (Qwen3.5-9B), which output probability-weighted choices for predefined answers so downstream agents can act automatically. The company says both support text and images, report median latencies of ~209 ms (Clef) and ~39 ms (Clef-flash), are compatible with TypeSafe AI's Jev API, available on Hugging Face under Apache-2.0, and will be accompanied by a reinforcement-learning service for customer fine-tuning.

Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince on bots, AI scraping, and remaking the web’s business model

In a Decoder interview, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince said the company found in June that bots now account for more than half of internet traffic and described rising AI scraping and autonomous agents as forcing a rethink of the web’s business model. He explained Cloudflare’s role as a gatekeeper—allowing, blocking, or monetizing access for AI tools—and discussed internal changes including layoffs and a Wall Street Journal op‑ed about replacing roles with AI.
