Meta extends its Private Processing confidential-computing architecture to AI glasses
Meta says it is extending its Private Processing design to wearable AI glasses, running AI models and persistent user context inside confidential virtual machines (CVMs) backed by hardware TEEs in Meta’s cloud. The architecture uses remote attestation, anonymous credentials, OHTTP relays, encrypted storage and a public transparency ledger; Meta says the platform is not yet deployed to glasses and that it is engaging independent security firms and researchers (including NCC Group) to review and audit the system.
KEY POINTS
- Meta says it is extending its Private Processing design to wearable AI glasses, running AI models and persistent user context inside confidential virtual machines (CVMs) backed by hardware TEEs in Meta’s cloud.
- The architecture uses remote attestation, anonymous credentials, OHTTP relays, encrypted storage and a public transparency ledger; Meta says the platform is not yet deployed to glasses and that it is engaging independent security firms and researchers (including NCC Group) to review and audit the system.
- The change matters because it shifts the confidential-computing boundary into Meta’s cloud to enable stateful, always‑available wearable AI while aiming to limit Meta’s access to user context and model IO.
