D.C. appeals court lets Pentagon supply‑chain risk designation for Anthropic stand

A three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit refused to overturn one of the Pentagon’s supply‑chain risk designations for Anthropic’s Claude, issuing a 2–1 decision that the Department of Defense had adequate grounds; the ruling leaves the Pentagon’s ban on using Claude in some federal systems in place while a separate San Francisco ruling had vacated the other designation. Anthropic says it may seek further review en banc or at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Pentagon requests $30.3M to develop AI-powered 'Polygraph+' lie detector

The Department of Defense has requested $30.3 million over five years for a program called "Polygraph+" (or "Polygraph Next") to develop AI/ML scoring algorithms and non-contact 'standoff sensing' for credibility assessment; the program would be run by the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency and the budget request has not been approved by Congress. The initiative follows DIU prototype work involving Presage Technologies and Altec Research, but it revives longstanding scientific and fairness concerns about the validity and potential biases of polygraph-style deception detection.

CNN: AI error in intelligence report nearly led to U.S. operation against Chinese ship

A chatbot used by a Special Operations Command analyst had misidentified the ship’s cargo while helping prepare an intelligence report. Officials detected the error before the operation proceeded; the Pentagon and command had not commented in CNN’s report.
