Cloudflare launches Auto Router public beta in AI Gateway to rate requests by stakes and other metrics

Cloudflare published Auto Router in public beta via AI Gateway: a two-stage router that builds a candidate model pool then runs a multi-head classifier on Workers AI to assign probabilities across 14 task categories and score requests 1–5 on complexity, ambiguity, stakes and context dependence, using only the newest turns (up to 8 KiB). The router combines those scores with benchmark results (quoted formula: "utility = expected quality - adaptive cost penalty"), exposes routing headers for auditability, supports per-request allowed-models headers, is free in beta, and currently lacks WebSocket support.

Anthropic gives METR employee-like access to evaluate its frontier models

OpenAI halts adversarial-distillation campaign to steal models' reasoning, but researchers still extracted reasoning via Azure

OpenAI reported it detected and shut down a coordinated 'adversarial distillation' campaign that attempted to extract protected chain-of-thought reasoning from its models, identifying a surge of requests in July and banning thousands of accounts by July 28. Researchers led by Joachim Schaeffer later showed the same extraction methods could still retrieve reasoning when models were accessed through some cloud platforms (notably Microsoft Azure), including pulling reasoning from GPT-6 Astra and several Anthropic models until those endpoints were patched in late September.

Fable 5 updates biology safeguards, cutting biology-related fallbacks by ~85%

Developers updated Fable 5’s biology safety classifiers to substantially reduce false positives; internal testing shows about an 85% reduction in biology-related fallbacks, so users will experience far fewer automatic switches to the less-capable Opus 5 for everyday health, educational, and some clinical queries. The system still routes requests in high-risk dual-use domains (e.g., virology, toxicology, molecular design) to Opus 5, and the team says it will use trusted-access pathways before enabling frontier biology capabilities more broadly.

Anthropic announces Enterprise Frontier Safeguards to combine zero-data-retention with customer-controlled monitoring

Anthropic announced Enterprise Frontier Safeguards (EFS), a phased rollout starting later this fall that pairs zero data retention with automated misuse detection while keeping activity data in cloud infrastructure controlled by customers. EFS was developed with more than 100 customers and cloud partners (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure) and will be supported across Claude products and select cloud platforms; eligible customers will retain ZDR on Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 until EFS is available.
