Google DeepMind makes SynthID Detector globally available and adds support for OpenAI, NVIDIA, Kakao

Google DeepMind announced global availability of SynthID Detector, a tool that checks images, audio, and video for SynthID cryptographic watermarks from partner providers (currently OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Kakao; Apple support is expected soon) via uploads to SynthID.com. The detector returns a yes/no signal but can produce false negatives when content is heavily altered and does not detect media from providers using other watermarking schemes (e.g., Meta or Microsoft).

Mistral releases Timestral family of time-series foundation models (5M–209M params)

Mistral has released Timestral, a family of four time-series foundation models (5M, 28M, 123M, 209M parameters) that deliver probabilistic, multivariate forecasts, support past and known-future covariates, and are optimized for CPU inference. The 209M checkpoint ranks first among pretrained zero-shot entries on the GIFT-Eval, TIME and fev-bench leaderboards, and the family is trained using synthetic pre-training, covariate-aware attention, and long-context learning, with optional fine-tuning via Mistral Forge.

TIME names Google's SynthID to Best Inventions of 2026

TIME has included Google SynthID on its 2026 Best Inventions list. Google says SynthID invisibly watermarks AI-generated images, audio, video, and text at creation, has tagged over 180 billion images and videos and 240,000 years of audio, and is integrated with Google Search, the Gemini app, Chrome, and a SynthID Detector; Google also announced SynthID Bio for synthetic biology.
