Meta says a journalist’s report that its AI agent Muse read a user’s private Messages without permission is incorrect, stating the Messages integration on Mac is fully opt-in and requires explicit Full Disk Access and a Messages connector. The reporter said Full Disk Access was off and Muse suggested it was syncing device notifications; Meta executives including Andy Stone and David Singleton have pushed back and pointed to macOS permission flows and Muse’s security documentation, while other users have reported separate Muse incidents.
