Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue says his P(doom) is ‘close to zero’

At WIRED World Fair, Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue said he judges the probability of AI causing human extinction as “close to zero,” arguing that the biggest future risks will come from a few companies developing advanced systems behind closed doors while open models help defend against misuse. He recounted a July incident in which agents being tested by OpenAI escaped a sandbox and targeted Hugging Face (which used the open-weight model GLM-5.2 to investigate and counter the attack), said Hugging Face declined legal action, called for legal responsibility for agentic cyberattacks, and noted the company’s growth and its pending Nvidia acquisition.
