StepSafe (ASPO): a step-level timely-intervention framework for agent safety
The authors introduce StepSafe (ASPO), a training framework for step-level timely intervention in agentic systems that combines pre-fix level stage alignment and adaptive feedback self-distillation, augments data with a violation taxonomy and per-step intervention windows via multi-agent red-teaming, and reports state-of-the-art results among open-source guardrails on five agent-safety benchmarks (Youden's J 53.0 for a 4B model vs. 46.2 baseline).
