a16z finds few US consumers pay for AI subscriptions, spending concentrated among prosumers

Andreessen Horowitz's seventh Top 100 AI list incorporates observed US card spending and finds that while nearly half of US consumers use AI, only about 4.5% had paid personal subscriptions (ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude) in August. Revenue is highly concentrated: the top 1% of payers account for nearly a fifth of observed spending (around $900/month on average), typical paying users spend about $25/month, ChatGPT leads usage and Claude has grown as a paid product, and agent products are beginning to trigger sizable purchases.
