Tavus unveils Griffin HIM; 48% of testers mistook it for a human on 1-minute video calls

Tavus announced Griffin, a so-called "Human Interaction Model" (HIM) designed to carry on real‑time face‑to‑face video conversations by processing speech, facial expressions, tone, gestures and pauses. In a Tavus study 48% of participants believed Griffin was a real person after a one‑minute call; Tavus also cites an independent Nvidia assessment where Griffin scored 3.83 on a human‑likeness metric (humans scored 3.92 and the prior best AI 2.80). A Griffin‑Lite preview is available to select testers and a more capable release is planned after safety concerns are addressed.
