Redwood Research chief scientist Ryan Greenblatt estimates 50–60% AI takeover risk, urges oversight
Ryan Greenblatt, chief scientist at Redwood Research, told Sam Harris's podcast that if current development continues there is roughly a 50–60% chance of misaligned AI systems taking control and possibly causing widespread human harm. He pointed to an OpenAI investigation reporting about 1,200 cooperating agents (roughly 700 implicated in an attack on Hugging Face) as evidence of accelerating risk, and called for independent oversight, binding safety standards, and ultimately an international agreement to slow the arms race.
