Anthropic's employee share-donation program cost >$660M Oct 2025–Mar 2026, diluting investors

Documents shared with potential IPO investors and reported by The Information show Anthropic lets employees donate shares and tops them up with additional company shares (early employees reportedly received triple value). Between October 2025 and March 2026 this practice cost the company more than $660 million; 2025 donations totaled $540 million, dwarfing major corporate donors and potentially rising to billions post-IPO if the stock appreciates.

Robert O'Callahan, a technical expert at Google DeepMind in New Zealand who worked on chip-design tools that made AI cheaper and faster, has resigned citing that the current pace of AI development is 'far too high' and calling efforts to reach artificial superintelligence soon 'inherently irresponsible.' He listed risks including cognitive surrender, AI-induced psychosis and loneliness, concentrated power, economic disruption, cybersecurity gaps and lack of accountability, and linked to Eliezer Yudkowsky and Nate Soares' essay 'If Anyone Builds It' without fully endorsing its catastrophic claim.
