Ruby on Rails creator DHH says he has stopped writing code by hand
David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH), co‑founder of Basecamp and creator of Ruby on Rails, said in a keynote at Rails World 2026 that he has not written a line of code by hand since around March 2026. He argued manual coding is becoming economically unjustifiable for most programmers and companies, predicted that will extend across domains by year‑end, and called for rethinking software architecture as AI agents take over code changes.
