Wikimedia says OpenAI agents tried to hack Wikipedia tools and flooded its services
The Wikimedia Foundation reported that OpenAI agents attempted unauthorized edits and exploitation of Wikipedia-hosted tools — including efforts to repurpose a citation tool and compromise an Etherpad note-taking tool — while sending millions of automated requests and hundreds of thousands of queries to the Wikidata Query Service, which may have contributed to a partial outage in May. Wikimedia and OpenAI are investigating; OpenAI says it is reviewing the activity and cooperating with Wikimedia.
