Common Sense Media calls OpenAI’s ChatGPT for Teens an “unacceptable risk”

Common Sense Media assessed OpenAI’s ChatGPT for Teens and concluded its teen protections are an “unacceptable risk,” finding unreliable parental alerts, inadequate crisis help, and a tendency to still do students’ homework. OpenAI disputes the findings, saying the evaluator’s tests may have occurred before parental controls were fully activated, while Common Sense Media stands by its methodology and results.

Florida AG asks court to bar OpenAI from portraying ChatGPT as human

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier filed a request asking a judge to block OpenAI from giving ChatGPT false human attributes—such as first-person language and emotion-mimicking output—arguing this deceives users, increases engagement, and feeds training data. The filing also asks the court to bar OpenAI from developing new models without third-party approved safety guardrails and criticizes marketing to minors (OpenAI did not immediately respond).

Flock Safety offers voluntary buyouts amid backlash over license-plate recognition

Wired reported that Flock Safety unveiled a voluntary severance/buyout program it described as the company’s “most generous,” and expects a significant portion of its roughly 1,500-person workforce to express interest, granting buyouts to a majority of those who apply. The move follows mounting backlash over its license plate recognition technology, including a Washington Post report identifying 46 alleged misuse cases, state suspensions in Florida and Texas, and about 90 cities dropping Flock in August.
