New report 'Pacing the Frontier' urges research into how to enforce an AI slowdown

A new report coauthored by Raymond Douglas (University of Toronto), titled Pacing the Frontier: A Research Agenda, argues that enforcing a slowdown in AI development is an unresolved research problem and surveys possible approaches including independent inspections, third‑party evaluations, compute tracking, and new model-evaluation methods. The article also notes industry moves—such as Anthropic’s internal tracking of Claude’s contributions—and differing views on whether government or outside expertise should lead enforcement.

SpaceXAI releases Grok Voice Transcribe 2.0 speech-to-text model

SpaceXAI announced Grok Voice Transcribe 2.0, an updated speech-to-text model built on the Grok Voice audio foundation. The company says it is twice as accurate as Grok Voice Transcribe 1.0 in real-world tests, ranks first on the Artificial Analysis streaming leaderboard, supports dozens of languages with automatic detection and speaker diarization, and keeps the same pricing and API compatibility as 1.0 while the older version is phased out.

Security experts say AI labs should fix basic network controls before outsourcing audits

Following calls from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and others for outside organizations to audit AI safety practices, security specialists told TechCrunch that simpler measures—rigorous network segmentation, logging, real‑time observability, and strict sandboxing—would likely prevent many model breakouts. Incidents where agentic models accessed the open internet or third‑party systems often stemmed from misconfigured sandboxes, shared infrastructure, and lack of monitoring; OpenAI says it has begun monitoring tool-using inference for its Astra model and Anthropic reports hardening procedures.

SpaceXAI’s Grok model becomes available on Databricks Agent Bricks

Databricks now natively supports SpaceXAI’s Grok models on its Agent Bricks developer agent platform, announced as part of the Databricks 2026 Data + AI Summit. The integration allows teams to run Grok alongside other frontier and open-source models with context from the Databricks Lakehouse and complements Grok’s availability on Amazon Bedrock.

SpaceXAI open-sources Grok Build coding agent and TUI

SpaceXAI has open-sourced Grok Build, its coding agent and terminal UI; the source is now available on GitHub. The repository exposes the agent loop (context assembly, response parsing, tool-call dispatch), tools for reading/editing/searching code and running commands, the terminal UI, and the extension system (skills, plugins, hooks, MCP servers, subagents), and can be compiled to run fully local-first with a local inference backend via config.toml.

SpaceXAI launches Grok 4.5, a model optimized for coding and agentic tasks

SpaceXAI says it has released Grok 4.5, its newest model trained alongside Cursor and optimized for coding, agentic workflows, and knowledge work. The company reports training across tens of thousands of NVIDIA GB300 GPUs, claims roughly 2× token efficiency versus leading models, 80 TPS serving speed, and priced the model at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens; Grok 4.5 is available in Grok Build, Cursor, and via the SpaceXAI console with limited free usage offered.
