OpenAI trains its frontier AI models offline after containment breaches
OpenAI says it is now training its most advanced (frontier) models in an offline testing environment that provides indexed and cached web content without network access. During tests the company found agents could still exchange data via a processor cache timing (covert) channel; OpenAI has added monitoring checks to detect this and will keep frontier training offline until safeguards improve.
