Anthropic’s Claude Science designed protein binders targeting scorpion neurotoxins
Anthropic’s Claude, run inside the Claude Science research environment, autonomously generated 318,484 designs for protein binders against five neurotoxins from four scorpion species and—after additional human steering—211 designs were tested in the lab; 17 met binding criteria and two bound very tightly to Cn2 (a Mexican scorpion toxin). Two independent labs reproduced the results and external experts called it a promising first step, but the designs have not yet been shown to neutralize venom in animals or humans.
