Preprint: Multi-agent LLM collaboration improves task performance but does not reliably reduce hallucination in clinical tasks
This arXiv preprint (2610.27027v1) evaluates one single-LLM baseline and three multi-agent topologies across four models and three clinical tasks, scoring hallucination inside generated rationales using a factuality and faithfulness taxonomy alongside task metrics. The authors find collaboration often raises task performance but does not systematically reduce hallucination; results vary by model (of 36 model–system–task comparisons, 12 showed resolvable changes: four decreases and eight increases), and a self-correction test showed all models except Llama-3.2-3B-Instruct reduced hallucination when shown flagged errors.
