Developers and AI agents are 'dumbing down' smart TVs to remove ads and bloat
Open-source projects such as "dumbtv" and "cleanyourtv," plus AI agents like Claude Code, are being used to remove preinstalled apps, ads, and tracking from Android/Google/Fire TV devices via Wi‑Fi without requiring root. These community tools and prompt-driven AI walkthroughs are still works in progress and have produced mixed results, including some reports of bricked devices or broken functionality.
