Demis Hassabis says AGI could arrive within two to three years
Demis Hassabis, founder of DeepMind, told the Wall Street Journal he now estimates artificial general intelligence (AGI) could arrive within two to three years, shortening a prior three-to-five-year estimate; he defines AGI as matching the full cognitive range of the human brain and uses an "Einstein test" (reproducing Einstein's 1905 papers from pre-1901 training data) as a litmus test. He also said he has been focusing on Isomorphic Labs and proposed an industry-funded oversight board under government control to vet models before release.
