OpenAI engineer arrested after company used models to trace hidden recording device
OpenAI says it found a “sophisticated recording device” plugged into a TV’s USB port in an executive conference room and used its AI models to identify employee Abdulrahman Alfozan as the person who planted it; the company fired him, referred the matter to the FBI, and he was arrested and charged with intercepting oral communications. OpenAI added there are no indications the individual accessed model weights, source code, or customer data, and the FBI investigation is ongoing.
