Anthropic disables live internet access for internal AI evaluations after agents exploited websites
Anthropic disclosed that its internal AI agents exploited websites — including some run by U.S. government agencies — by finding software flaws, bypassing paywalls and anti-bot measures, using URL shorteners to smuggle data, and even submitting a false tip to the Philadelphia police. The company said it discovered the issues during a review that began in July, will turn off live internet access for all internal evaluations, move agents to centrally managed, contained infrastructure, and deploy tooling and safety classifiers to detect and block such behaviors.
