California athletic commission issues cease-and-desist over Rek human-vs-robot fight
The California State Athletic Commission sent a cease-and-desist to startup Rek after a September 18 match that paired human fighter Frankie LaPenna with a humanoid robot remotely piloted via a virtual-reality system, saying Rek cannot hold, promote, or advertise any boxing or MMA contest involving any human in California without the commission’s approval. Rek CEO Cix Liv posted the letter to X on September 30; Rek’s next planned event is a robot-vs-robot weapons match.
