Mathematicians call for OpenAI boycott after publication of hundreds of AI-generated proofs
After OpenAI released more than 700 AI-generated mathematical manuscripts, the Association for Human Mathematics (AHM), chaired by Fields Medalist Terence Tao, urged mathematicians to boycott the company, accusing it of violating core research norms by flooding the field with dense, hard-to-verify proofs. The dispute, which follows OpenAI's claim that an internal model solved 100+ open math problems and the creation of an advisory group AGMAI, centers on whether problems should count as solved before human-verifiable, readable proofs and on attribution/training-data concerns.
