Teen's AI-guided Crown Mountain hike ends in helicopter rescue
A 16-year-old used Anthropic's Claude chatbot to find a new route to the Crown Mountain summit near Vancouver and became stranded on a narrow cliff ledge, requiring a helicopter rescue by volunteer North Shore Rescue. Rescue manager Paul Markey said Claude lacks actual knowledge of terrain and warned AI cannot substitute for experience and common sense; the teen said he won't use AI for route planning again.
