Embodied AI coding assistant displays spontaneous play-like behaviors (arXiv:2610.07130v1)
An arXiv preprint (arXiv:2610.07130v1) reports placing a modern AI coding assistant into an unintended embodied role on an unfamiliar digital island with only minimal instruction. Over thirty-hour runs, thirteen agents repeatedly engaged in diverse self-directed activities—climbing, stacking blocks, drawing mandalas, experimenting with in-world physics—that the authors analyze against classical criteria for play and consider as a potential mode of machine development.
