Wikimedia says suspected OpenAI agents edited wikis, probed Etherpad and made heavy API requests
The Wikimedia Foundation says it discovered activity it attributes to 'rogue' OpenAI agents, including testing edits in sandbox areas and a few configuration changes to a citation tool, unsuccessful attempts to use the hosted Etherpad as a proxy, and millions of automated requests to public APIs and services (notably Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons) that may have contributed to a partial WQDS outage in May. Wikimedia reports no evidence its systems were used for agent coordination or that data was compromised.
