Quinnipiac poll: most Americans want AI development slowed or halted until safety verified
A Quinnipiac University poll of 1,202 US adults (Sept. 24–27, margin of error ±3.5%) found 47% want to reduce the pace of AI development and 30% want a full stop until safety is verified; only 5% favor faster development. The survey also found 86% support independent safety standards, 73% fear AI could threaten humanity, and 74% have little or no trust in AI company leaders, per Chetan Jaiswal.
