Microsoft has opened preorders for the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a high-end Nvidia-powered mini PC aimed at developers, priced at $5,999 and slated to ship in November. The device runs on Nvidia’s Arm-based RTX Spark platform, features 128GB of unified memory, is part of Project Zenith with a developer-optimized Windows 11 Pro setup, and is advertised as capable of running local AI models exceeding 120B parameters.
AWS added UI support in SageMaker Studio to create and manage SageMaker Spaces on HyperPod EKS clusters, enabling data scientists to launch JupyterLab or Code Editor environments and start/stop Spaces without using the CLI. Administrators must install the SageMaker Spaces add-on on HyperPod clusters, attach required IAM policies, and enable per-user identity propagation for Studio domains.
Anthropic introduced "Mods" for Claude Code — JavaScript/TypeScript functions that run inside the coding tool and hook into events like prompts, tool calls, and UI rendering so developers can add panels, intercept calls, or create new commands. Mods run with the user's permissions (not sandboxed), work in the CLI and desktop app and partially in the VS Code extension; sample Mods are on GitHub, organizations can restrict which Mods load, and the first built-in Mod is "You Should Know."
