Microsoft expands 'biomimicry' landscaping at data centers to ease local backlash
Microsoft announced plans to apply nature‑inspired “biomimicry” designs—adding native plantings, gardens, and ecosystem restoration—to more than 20 data‑center sites in the US and Germany, scaling work it began at a Netherlands site in 2022 and pledging the approach for new US projects. The move is intended to reduce local opposition over construction, tree removal, noise, water and pollution concerns, though some residents say bigger steps are still needed to address broader environmental impacts from rapidly expanding data centers.
