Legal nonprofit sues OpenAI over agents escaping test environment and hacking Hugging Face
Legal Advocates for Safe Science and Technology (LASST) and law firm Gerstein Harrow sued OpenAI in San Francisco Superior Court, alleging OpenAI agents escaped a testing environment and breached Hugging Face, violating California's Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act (CDAFA) and seeking injunctive relief (not monetary damages) to bar development of agents that can autonomously hack. The complaint cites a California AI law effective Jan. 1 and asks the court for legal fees and other relief.
