One year in: Microsoft Research Asia – Singapore reports progress on frontier AI and partnerships
Microsoft Research Asia – Singapore, Microsoft’s first research lab in Southeast Asia opened on July 24, 2025, says it has grown its team and deepened partnerships over its first year, focusing on next‑generation models and agentic systems, domain‑specific AI, AI‑native research practices, and ecosystem and talent development. The lab reports early deployments and partnerships in multimodal healthcare AI and self‑evolving diagnostic agents, collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board (including joint PhD training via the IPP), and alignment with Singapore’s National AI Strategy 2.0.
